The Countdown: Exploring the Future of Plant-Centric Food Systems
January 28th & 29th
We have less than 10 years to urgently grow the next generation of conscious eaters, ethical enterprises,
and the future leaders of plant-centered food systems.
We spent days exploring the Future of Plant-Centric Food Systems by setting the systems context around climate, agriculture, nutrition, and planetary health then hearing from food system champions who have been affecting positive change through innovation and entrepreneurship.
According to UN Scientists, the world
has less than a decade to get climate
change under control in hopes of
avoiding catastrophic disaster.
Given that 34% of all man-made greenhouse gas emissions are generated by food systems, we, as food consumers and advocates, need to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, equitable, and regenerative food system as soon as possible by harnessing the power of plants.
Plants hold the key to transforming
Plant Futures launched last year as an innovative, multidisciplinary program at UC Berkeley focused on plant-centric food systems and their impacts on human health, animal welfare, and planetary sustainability, and the programming is expanding to campuses across the globe.
