2022 Impact Report

Hello Plant Futurists!
Today I am excited to share Plant Futures latest Impact Report with you.
2022 was a year of rapid evolution, momentous shifts, and growth at Plant Futures. Our small but phenomenally capable team accomplished more than anyone could have ever imagined:
We kicked off the year with our annual Symposium in January, which featured the world’s top academic and food leaders in the plant-based sector and reached attendees from over twenty-six countries.
Our global Student Chapter Network expanded to over thirty campuses across the world.
Our innovative and ever-evolving curriculum was offered twice at UC Berkeley, and was approved for academic credit at UCLA, Stanford, and Harvard University.
We presented at the inaugural Animal and Vegan Advocacy Summit in DC, which resulted in receiving additional support from generous foundations and donors to help expand our team and impact.
Looking ahead to 2023, we plan to continue to grow our movement by:
Integrating a focus on international expansion, starting with Latin America, Asia, and Europe. We plan to expand our curriculum and courses globally, where the nascent plant-based sector is exponentially expanding.
Kicking off the Challenge Lab at Harvard University in the Spring, laying the groundwork for further expansions to come.
Using a new grant received from the UC Office of the President to expand our curriculum across all the UC Campuses.
Hosting our first in-person Symposium at UC Berkeley – the first event of its kind.
Launching the Plant Futures Membership Program, which will connect our rapidly growing community in novel ways to our dynamic movement, powerful network, and widespread impact.
And more!
In assessing the impact we’ve made this past year and looking forward to the growth we anticipate in 2023, the throughline and foundation of our work is, and has always been, the ever-refreshing energy and motivation of the next generations that is determined to change our food system for the better. I’ve had students as young as seven years old through those in the last years of their PHD programs reach out to me over the past year asking how they can become involved with our organization and the movement we’re building. I know that at Plant Futures we are bridging a gap, and equipping this generation with a pivotal, science supported understanding of the potential plants have to be a powerful lever of transformative change.
Our focus at Plant Futures is to continue to equip the next generation with the necessary knowledge, tools, and network to enable and empower them to create the change we all know they are capable of, a change on which the future of our planet largely depends.
